The L1ghthouse Centre

Lighthouse v2

The L1ghthouse Centre is committed to serving families in a city in East Asia. We empower local families to be physically, emotionally, spiritually, educationally, and socially healthy and strong.  TLC is a resource centre where families receive training to make healthy choices.  We also equip and train the local body of believers to become leaders, trainers and mentors in their community. In addition, TLC has a Library component where we provide an all English Language Children's Library Programme and adult English classes.

UCCF (website)

UCCF - Simon OatridgeSimon is the Staff Worker for UCCF working in Sheffield. He'll be responsible for Sheffield Uni, Sheffield Hallam and Hull Uni CUs, supporting and serving them in any way possible in order to equip them to live and speak for Jesus in the student world. The work will involve meeting up with students to read the Bible, leads SLOBS (Student Leaders Own Bible Studies), attend CU meetings, speak at CUs/lunchbars/houseparties as well as meeting with church leaders and supporters who partner in the work. Alongside this there is a training track which will mean half a day a week will be devoted to personal study.

Prayer Points for UCCF and Simon:

  • Thank God for the Christians at all three uni's and their desire to live and speak for Jesus.
  • Pray that many more students would come to know Christ
  • Give thanks for the opportunity to serve them over the next few years - and ask that Simon would form good relations quickly with students
  • That others would partner Simon and UCCF in this work of making disciples of Christ in the student world; that the Lord would help him to raise the necessary support to pray for the work and fund the work.
  • And finally that as Simon continues to serve Christ he would settle quickly into a new job with new colleagues and boss.

The Barnabas Fund (website)

Barnabas fund logoAs a church we are supporting the work of the Barnabas Fund, seeking to give hope and aid for the persecuted church. We have donated to their Disaster Relief Fund.

Natural disasters and man-made catastrophes occur in many places; the tsunami in the Indian Ocean in December 2004, the Pakistan earthquake of October 2005, the Indonesia earthquake of May 2006, periodic famines in Africa, the ongoing crisis in Darfur, floods in Bangladesh in 2007, cyclone Nargis in Myanmar in 2008, the Chin famine 2009, cyclone Aila in Bangladesh in 2009. Christian minorities often suffer in greater proportion in areas where they are already sidelined or persecuted, and may miss out on relief aid. Barnabas Fund works to support local partners to bring rapid assistance, often within 24 hours of an incident. Initial needs are usually for food and clean water, and medical assistance. Then there is often a need for temporary shelter, blankets and basic equipment. Long term the aim can be to rebuild houses and churches, support economic initiatives to restart businesses and allow people to earn an income. On average it costs about £20 per month to provide food/water, vitamins and supplements to enable a family to survive.

Crosslinks - Browns

Chris and Lizzie Brown work with Gruppi Biblici Universitari (GBU), an IFES affliated organisation whose goal is to win and disciple students in Italy for Christ. They are currently based in Florence and have a daughter, Shona (b. November 2008) and a son, Pietro (b. 2010), but will shortly move to Bologna to be the GBU Staff for Northeast Italy. The stated aim of the GBU is to 'share Jesus student to student', and it seeks to meet together, learn from God's Word, plan and run evangelistic activitiesand share their faith with their friends. Chris and LIzzie's work includes seeking to inspire students and churches to share this vision, training and teaching the Bible and working with the students in practical evangelism. There is much scope for greater evangelical witness in Italian universities, and our long term prayer is that the GBU would grow in reach and depth so that many in Italy would turn to Christ.

Prayer Points

  • Thanks for the opportunity to contribute to this important work in Italy.
  • Pray for evangelical Christians in Italy to see the importance of proclaiming Christ to a lost generation, put aside their differences and come together in works like the GBU to reach out with the gospel.
  • Pray for Chris and Lizzie to grow in their own faith and witness, so that they are able to encourage the students they are working with to do the same.
